What Is Orgonite?
Materials, Construction & the True Orgonite Standard
Orgonite is a handmade composite material typically created from a combination of resin, metal and quartz crystal, cast together and cured into a solid form.
Modern orgonite developed from ideas influenced by the work of Wilhelm Reich, who used alternating organic and metallic materials in what he called orgone accumulators. The resin-and-metal composite now commonly called orgonite was developed later and should not be confused with Reich's original accumulator designs.
Over the years, makers around the world have developed many different approaches to orgonite construction, incorporating different metals, crystals, ratios, layers, coils, shapes and techniques.
At True Orgonite, we believe those differences should be explored rather than hidden.
We focus on:

Transparent construction.
Independent creators.
Documented knowledge.
Honest discussion.
We do not ask you to accept extraordinary claims simply because they have been repeated for years.
Our aim is to help people understand what is actually inside orgonite, how it is made, what properties its individual materials are known to possess, what creators observe through their own work, and what has — and has not — been scientifically demonstrated.

The Core Materials
Resin
Polyester and epoxy resins are commonly used as the binding material in modern orgonite.
The liquid resin surrounds the metal, quartz and other mineral inclusions before curing into a solid composite.
Many resins contract to some degree during curing. This means crystals embedded within the material may experience mechanical stress.
This becomes particularly interesting when quartz is involved because quartz is a piezoelectric material.
That does not mean a cured piece of orgonite has been scientifically demonstrated to continuously generate useful electricity or produce a particular energetic effect.
It simply means that the material property of quartz itself is real and measurable.
Understanding the difference between an established property of an individual material and a claim about the finished orgonite piece is an important part of the True Orgonite approach.
Metal
Metal is one of the defining components of modern orgonite construction.
Creators may use:
Aluminium
Brass
Copper
Steel
Bronze
Iron
Mixed metal shavings and particles
The metal is normally distributed throughout the resin rather than being included only as a decorative layer.
Different makers favour different metals, particle sizes and arrangements.
Copper, for example, is highly electrically conductive. Brass and bronze provide different densities, compositions and visual characteristics, while aluminium and steel are widely used throughout orgonite construction.
At True Orgonite, substantial metal content is part of our marketplace standard.
Our current standard requires a minimum of 50% metal content by volume for pieces sold as True Orgonite.
We make this distinction because a resin ornament containing a few decorative metal flakes is fundamentally different in construction from a densely packed handmade orgonite piece.
True Orgonite exists to make that difference visible to the buyer.
Quartz Crystal
Quartz is one of the most important materials associated with modern orgonite construction.
Quartz is piezoelectric.
In simple terms, mechanical stress applied to appropriately oriented quartz can result in electrical polarisation and measurable electrical charge.
This is an established physical property of quartz and is one reason quartz has been used in electronic, timing, sensing and pressure-related applications.
Many orgonite creators position quartz points within the centre of a piece, while others use:
Double-terminated quartz
Quartz chips
Crushed quartz
Quartz powder
Multiple quartz points
Different crystal orientations
The exact approach varies considerably between creators.
True Orgonite does not claim that the presence of piezoelectric quartz proves claims about orgone energy.
It is simply an important and scientifically interesting property of one of the primary materials used in the craft.
Other Crystals & Minerals
Modern creators often include additional minerals alongside quartz.
These may be selected because of their physical properties, appearance, mineral composition, symbolism, traditional associations or simply the individual maker's preferred construction method.

We encourage creators to explain why they use the materials they use, rather than simply listing them.
That knowledge forms part of the story of every handmade piece.
Shungite
Shungite is a carbon-rich metamorphic rock most strongly associated with the Karelia region of Russia.
Its unusual carbon structure has attracted scientific interest, including research into its carbon nanostructure and its behaviour as a sorptive material.
Shungite has also been investigated experimentally in relation to water treatment and the removal of certain contaminants.
That research should not be confused with the much broader health, healing or electromagnetic-protection claims sometimes made about shungite online.
At True Orgonite, shungite may be included because of its mineral composition, carbon content, appearance and the construction preferences of individual creators.
We do not turn those material properties into unsupported health claims.
Black Tourmaline
Black tourmaline — commonly schorl — is another mineral frequently found in orgonite.
Tourmaline is particularly interesting from a materials perspective because members of the tourmaline mineral group exhibit both piezoelectric and pyroelectric behaviour.
Piezoelectricity relates to electrical polarisation produced through mechanical stress.
Pyroelectricity relates to electrical polarisation associated with temperature change.
These are real properties of the mineral.
Again, True Orgonite distinguishes those established physical properties from claims about what an orgonite object containing tourmaline will do.
Why Construction Matters
Two objects can look almost identical from the outside while being completely different internally.
This is one of the reasons True Orgonite was created.
Modern orgonite makers use many different construction techniques.
Some use finely cut metal.
Others prefer larger shavings.
Some work with multiple layers.
Some mix metals throughout the resin.
Some use one central quartz point.
Others use several crystals positioned in specific directions.
Creators may also incorporate:
Copper coils
Tensor-style rings
Sacred geometry
Mineral powders
Crushed crystals
Layered metals
Double-terminated quartz
Iron oxides
Magnetic materials
Other experimental components
We do not believe every creator needs to make orgonite in exactly the same way.
Different methods may deserve investigation.
The important thing is being honest about what was used, how it was constructed and why the creator chose that method.
What Makes Orgonite Authentic?
There is no internationally recognised scientific or regulatory definition of "authentic orgonite".
For that reason, we believe it is more honest to explain exactly what the True Orgonite Marketplace Standard means.
For a product to be sold as orgonite through True Orgonite, we expect transparent construction based around the established modern maker tradition of:
Resin
The binding matrix that forms the body of the piece.
Significant Metal Content
Not a few decorative flakes added to an otherwise resin-dominant ornament.
Under the current True Orgonite standard, pieces must contain at least 50% metal by volume.
Quartz
Quartz must form part of the construction, whether as a point, crystal, chips, powder or another clearly disclosed inclusion.
Honest Material Disclosure
Creators should tell buyers what is actually inside their work.
Handmade Construction
True Orgonite exists for independent makers.
We do not accept factory-produced resin ornaments being passed off as individually handcrafted orgonite.
Weight Can Tell You Something — But Not Everything
A densely metal-filled orgonite piece will generally feel substantially heavier than a similarly sized resin-dominant object.
Weight can therefore be a useful clue when comparing products.
But weight should never be treated as proof on its own.
Different metals have very different densities. Shape, dimensions, resin type, mineral content and construction method all affect the final weight.
That is why True Orgonite looks at the complete construction rather than relying on a single measurement.
Our Size to Weight Reference Chart provides buyers with a useful comparison guide, but it is intended as a reference rather than an absolute scientific test.
More Than One Method
One of the principles behind True Orgonite is that knowledge does not develop by refusing to question established ideas.
Some makers have worked with orgonite for decades.
That experience matters.
But experience alone does not automatically make every explanation correct.
Equally, a new method should not automatically be dismissed simply because it differs from what came before.
We want creators to explain:
What do you do?
Why do you do it?
What have you observed?
Can you show it?
Can someone else repeat it?
What happened when it didn't work?
If you believe a method is unsafe, what is the reason and what evidence supports that conclusion?
That is how knowledge grows.

Independent Replication
A result another person or creator has successfully repeated.
Scientific Evidence
Evidence supported by appropriately designed scientific research.
These categories help us avoid presenting every observation as scientific proof while still respecting the practical knowledge developed by makers.

This distinction is fundamental to everything we are building.
True Orgonite does not claim that orgonite has been scientifically proven to:
Treat or cure medical conditions
Improve physical or mental health
Protect people from electromagnetic fields
Neutralise radiation
Alter weather
Produce guaranteed environmental effects
Generate scientifically established "orgone energy"
Provide any guaranteed therapeutic or protective benefit
Some creators and members of the wider orgonite community report personal observations and experiences.
Those experiences can be documented and discussed.
They should not automatically be presented as established scientific fact.
Quartz piezoelectricity is real.
Tourmaline's piezoelectric and pyroelectric behaviour is real.
Metals have measurable physical and electrical properties.
Shungite is a genuine carbon-rich geological material that has been the subject of materials research.
Those facts do not, on their own, prove the wider claims sometimes made about finished orgonite.
That distinction is where serious investigation begins.
